Mathematics
I can quickly divide by 2, 5 and 10 using multiplication facts I know.
Look: three quick strategies
- ÷2 is halving: half of 16 is 8, so 16 ÷ 2 = 8.
- ÷10 is counting tens: 90 is 9 tens, so 90 ÷ 10 = 9.
- ÷5 is counting fives: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 is seven fives, so 35 ÷ 5 = 7.

English Language Arts
I can show a feeling with body clues instead of naming it.
Look: Show, don't tell
- Telling names the feeling: Sam was cold.
- Showing tells what the body does: Sam's teeth chattered, and he hugged his arms.
- Leave out the feeling word. Let the reader figure it out.
Before the Race
Zuri stood at the starting line. Her legs bounced up and down, and she kept retying her shoelace. Her stomach flipped. When the whistle blew, she shot forward. At the finish line, she threw both arms in the air and grinned so wide her cheeks hurt.
