3-LS3-1: Find evidence of inherited traits and variation.
Official text
Analyze and interpret data to provide evidence that plants and animals have traits inherited from parents and that variation of these traits exists in a group of similar organisms.
What it means for your child
Your child uses data to show that young plants and animals inherit traits from their parents, and that animals of the same kind vary.
Try it at home
- Look at photos of a litter of puppies or kittens and list ways they are alike and different.
- Compare leaves from the same kind of plant and measure their lengths.
- Ask, 'Which traits did these puppies get from their parents?'
