3-ESS3-1: Judge designs that reduce weather hazards.
Official text
Make a claim about the merit of a design solution that reduces the impacts of a weather-related hazard.
What it means for your child
Your child makes a claim about how well a design, like a levee, a storm shelter or a lightning rod, reduces the damage caused by a weather hazard.
Try it at home
- Make a family plan for the severe weather most likely where you live.
- Look for weather safety features in your town, like storm drains or shelters.
- Build a small model house and test ways to keep it dry in a 'flood' tray.
