    Quarter 2 Review: Science

    32 points total · Name: ____________________ Date: __________

    For the adult

Give this review during Week 18, on the day set aside for science. It samples all of Weeks 10 to 17: ecosystems, habitats and adaptations, food chains and webs, animal groups, life cycles, the study square and the ecosystem model. It is not timed, and breaks between sections are fine. You may read every question, the food web, the table and the answer choices aloud as often as your child likes, because reading is not being checked. Your child needs a pencil for writing and for one small drawing. Please do not teach, explain science words or hint. Score with the notes under each section and give partial credit where they say so. The total is a snapshot for the quarter report and a guide to what to revisit. It is not a grade.

Part 1: Ecosystems, Habitats & Adaptations

Read each question. Fill in the blanks or write on the lines.

    1. 1.

Write L for living, O for once living or N for never alive. ___ an earthworm ___ a straw basket ___ a glass jar ___ a pea seed in a seed packet

Part 2: A Garden Food Web

    9 points

Read the garden food web. Each arrow points from the food to the eater. Use it for questions 5 to 8.

Toads live in the garden but lay their eggs in a pond across the lane. A busy new road will be built between the garden and the pond. Solution 1: build a small tunnel under the road for toads. Solution 2: hang a bird feeder in the garden. Which solution helps the garden's food web more? Make a claim and give a reason.

      (3 pts)

    Part 3: Life Cycles

    8 points

Think about the life cycles of plants and animals.

    1. 9.

A darkling beetle has the same four life stages as a butterfly: egg, larva, pupa and adult. Draw a life cycle model for the beetle. Label the 4 stages in order, add arrows that go in a circle, and put a star on the stage that lays the eggs.
