For the adult
This test checks the story skills from Weeks 1–6: characters, setting, order of events, character traits, using exact words from the text, and the lesson of a fable, plus text features, grammar and this unit's spelling patterns. You may read every set of directions and the reading questions aloud. Your child reads the story 'Badger's Bridge' and the dragonfly page on their own; that reading is part of what is checked. In Language and Word Study, read only the directions, not the sentences or words in the items. For the writing, read the prompt aloud and remind your child to look back at the story. Do not spell words or suggest answers. It is fine to split the test into two sittings, for example the story and text features on one day and the rest on the next.
